Her large-format carpets, which are made with the technique of tufting, as well as her ceramics represent faces, animals, body parts, garments or everyday objects.
Frequently, colors, shapes and contours merge, giving the work something mysterious and chimerical. The small-format watercolors often find themselves in a similar limbo; they contract and expand at the same time. The choice of materials, the way they are processed and the contrasting colors turn her works into sensual objects.
They seduce you to be touched, stroked or even to immerse yourselves completely in them. Signer focuses on processes, material properties, and working with ordinary objects.
His works thus show connections to conceptual art, Land Art, and Arte Povera. Signer augments the three dimensions of sculpture with a fourth: time. Using moving everyday objects such as a moving lawnmower and flying model helicopters, the passing of time and traces of past events are also made visible and tangible as metaphors for transience. Michel Blazy is invited to realize an immersive and environmental installation at the galerie des Ponchettes in Nice.

For its 8th exhibition in , the Villa Datris Foundation has chosen to explore the different modes of expression of contemporary sculpture through textile art, weaving and braiding. This theme has its roots in ancestral practices and evokes naturally the gestures on the loom, the weft and the warp, the comings and goings of the shuttle and the threads that intertwine and give substance to the textile material.
The artists of our time draw from these immemorial gestures a sensitive approach and sensual of the material, fibers, threads or twigs thus crossed and assembled. There is sometimes a philosophy close to that of Arte Povera , anxious to return to the destitution of origins, with modest materials or recovery. The approach of weaving or braiding also distresses the modern parameters of the emergency and reintroduces a another temporality.
This work of the hand is correlated with a perception of the work and time, and it introduces a real reflection on the notion of artifact. Gold is an object of desire and conquest, and a traditional symbol of power and wealth, but its plasticity also makes it the material of metamorphosis, a quality that has made it a favourite material in the arts. It includes archaeological objects ingots, funeral masks, jewellery, etc. Nuggets and jewels, statues and relics, and religious and ceremonial objects cover the various subjects addressed by the exhibition: our fascination with gold and its hoarding, the frantic quest for the precious metal and its negative impact on humankind and the environment, the technical aspects of its transformation from the most concrete actions to the alchemical illusion , its symbolic dimensions linked to divinity and power, and its festive, ritual and demonstrative aspects.

Taking up the figure of the metaphor, omnipresent in the film, the exhibition proposes a journey among works of modern and contemporary art that appropriate the architectures, symbols and objects of the past as means of survival of an identity in danger. For this solo show in Rome, Roman Signer will present sculptures and photographs from different times of his prolific production.
Via the work of some 60 French or France-based artists, the exhibition uses studio work approaches to outline the filiations, revivals and forms of evolution at work from one generation or context to another. Sculpting studio strategies […]. Artists avail themselves of whatever comes to hand, from modelling clay to granite, plastic to plants, the natural to the manufactured, the act to its outcome, the body itself, and more. Ways of working that put the emphasis on raw materials to be assembled, reshaped, combined or recycled.
The studio is for making: some of the guest artists are the sole creators of their works, in some cases drawing on personal mastery of traditional or artisanal techniques: for them creativity involves true savoir-faire. Others resort to the company of experts, sometimes from outside the domain of art, for the production process. This means no discontinuity between the three venues and no system of differentiation within the exhibition rooms. The accent is on osmosis between works, rather than thematic or generational associations.
It is our hope that this innovative use of proximity will give rise to the same happy accidents — and the miracles — that come about in the studio. This feeling of melancholy remains at the heart of the problems we are confronted with today because the world we face is an inevitable cause for concern, especially given the irreversible climate change. The earth we know will never be the same: the digital revolution in the s has marked the beginning of a form of dehumanisation of human relationships, questioning how a person can remain a unique and irreplaceable being.
Works by modern and contemporary artists presented in the exhibition explore issues such as nostalgia for a bygone era; for the depiction of solitude, absence, and passing time. Jean-Michel Sanejouand is part of the exhibition Los Amigos that explores the representation of friendship and problems of otherness. The exhibition has been built up around the clear inversion between the period that runs from the s to the s, and the one that separates us from the start of the 21st century: the desire of artists to act in the cultural industry and circuits of entertainment, has now been replaced or else referred back to its warped reflection by celebrities in the cinema or music industry who use artistic formats.
Based on this observation of substitution, the exhibition intends to unite the states of the relationship between art and entertainment, ranging from a criticism of the spectacular to the cultural horizon of celebrity, while stripping down their various mechanisms and tools. Her past and present works, hung on wall, presented on pedestal or on the floor, revolve on her cherished themes: women who have marked political, artistic, scientific history, theatre and stage costumes, dance and movement….

The gallery is pleased to announce its participation in Art Monte Carlo Specifically, working with a dramaturg, a designer and the actors. Since the limits of this paper make it impossible to include the extensive work I do with actors, I have chosen to concentrate only on all the processes I undertake with my dramaturg and my designer.
As an expert from the academic side of theatre, from pre-production to opening night, the dramaturg serves as a sounding board for ideas and a watchdog for the consistency of the concept, the imagery and the language. I have been extraordinarily lucky in this respect as a result of my ongoing work in Romania with a brilliant young woman by the name of Kinga Kelemen who, over the course of a number of productions, has became a true collaborator of this sort, in the fullest sense of the word.
Generally speaking, it is the designer — in most of my recent productions, my colleague Miriam Guretzky — who is the first person other than me to see the first draft. This can be as early as eight or nine months before the beginning of rehearsals. The most important part of this process occurs once the basic concept of the space is clear and we have a working floor plan. From this point we undertake a painstaking, line by line examination of the adaptation, in an attempt to visualize how the space will function; where the entrances and exits will be, and what conventions will be used to enhance the overall concept and the flow of the action.
Model for Act I of the Dybbuk the section in black are the audience seating Model for Act III of the Dybbuk Photos by Kinneret Kisch As shown in the photo above, in the first part of the play there were only four entrances, and a gallery surrounding the entire space. Within this space we had to develop the conventions that would serve a great variety of locations. Without going into too much detail, suffice it to say that the fundamental choice we made was that entrances and exits, and indeed, use of the entire space, would be based on fluid conventions that justified themselves briefly within each individual scene, then were immediately discarded and often never repeated.
In the case of The Dybbuk, this process took months of intensive work, as our thinking about the dynamics of the play in that space progressed. Recreating a classic is an intimate, protracted and complex process , which is extremely difficult to compress into words. It is a hugely rewarding journey, but one that always proceeds by unique pathways, none of which resemble the other. What I hope I have managed to do here is to give a bare outline of some of the principles involved in the hope that this will shed some light on the many forms of the journey.
